CANCER NUTRITION: GUIDANCE AMID COUNTLESS RECOMMENDATIONS
A cancer diagnosis brings many uncertainties - especially when it comes to nutrition. The internet is full of advice, much of it contradictory, about what kind of diet might help fight or worsen cancer. From ketogenic and vegan diets to methods that claim to "starve" tumors—the variety of opinions can be overwhelming. However, many of these approaches are not based on scientific evidence and, in the worst case, may lead to malnutrition and underweight. Rather than fearing specific foods, it is far more important to adopt a way of eating that nourishes and strengthens the body throughout treatment.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EAT? WHAT SHOULD YOU AVOID?
There is no universal “anti-cancer diet.” Every individual has different needs, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition for people with cancer. Extreme diets like strict ketogenic or vegan regimens, fasting protocols, or the idea of starving cancer cells have no proven benefit for cancer recovery and can even increase the risk of nutrient deficiencies - especially during treatment. Instead, a nutrient-rich and personalized approach is key to supporting the body effectively.
NUTRITION FOR BREAST CANCER AND OTHER CANCERS
Proper nutrition can play an essential role in supporting the body before, during, and after cancer treatment. A balanced, nutrient-dense diet helps provide energy, strengthens the immune system, and promotes recovery. Protein intake is particularly important to maintain muscle mass, as cancer and its treatments often lead to weight loss and muscle wasting. The goal is to stabilize the body and provide a strong foundation for the healing process - without resorting to extreme diets.
WEIGHT GAIN DURING CANCER AND BREAST CANCER
Not all people with cancer struggle with weight loss - some experience unintended weight gain, particularly women with breast cancer who are taking hormone-suppressing medications. These medications can induce or intensify menopause, slowing down the metabolism and making weight gain more likely. Treatments such as corticosteroids and reduced physical activity can also lead to a shift in body composition - less muscle, more fat tissue. A nutrient-dense, well-adapted diet can help regulate weight, counteract muscle loss, and ensure the body continues to receive all essential nutrients. The goal is not a restrictive diet, but a nourishing approach tailored to individual needs.

This is not about restrictions or rigid diets, but about sustainable, practical nutrition that feels good and fits into your life.
